about

Recorded live in a bedroom in Buckhannon, West Virginia in a single evening, Caleb Karriker's latest solo effort "Greener Pastures" captures the minimalist, intimate vibe that the West Virginia singer-songwriter brings to the stage every time he performs alone. "I wanted to make an album that had the feel of an old Smithsonian Folkways recording," Karriker says, "where someone just sets up a microphone or two and says 'okay, play me your stuff. And that's what we did.'" While the songs are versatile enough to be adapted into different formats ("Adventure Time" and "Bedtime Stories" were originally written for Karriker's punk rock band Holey Soles, and "Lace Up Your Boots" is currently getting the twang-rock treatment from his bar band Reverend Rattlesnake), the sparse presentation on "Greener Pastures" allows the lyrics to stand at the forefront, telling stories of loss, love, hard times, and the daily struggle to get better, get going, and get by.
